Jackie Young profile photo

Jackie Young

Family Psychotherapist and Couples Therapist

Qualifications: MSc Family and Systemic Psychotherapy from University of Strathclyde

I work systemically, both as a family psychotherapist and as a couples therapist. My work focusses on relationships, particularly where these relationships are not going as well as they might. I work in person and online.

Family Therapy

For many years, I have worked with separated families, both as a divorce lawyer and a mediator, and I still do that. Over the years, I realised how difficult it is for families to access support with the emotional impact of separation, particularly for their children. Having studied psychology before law, I decided to study family therapy in order to provide some emotional support for families affected by separation. As a family therapist, I specialise in working therapeutically with separated families and with those affected by parental separation.

I also work with families who are not separated and that work covers a wide range of family difficulties including difficulties with communication, relationships and/or behaviour. I work with individuals and with family groups.

My family therapy qualification is MSc Family and Systemic Psychotherapy from University of Strathclyde. I am a member of the Association of Family Therapists (AFT) and UK Council of Psychotherapists (UKCP).

Couples Therapy

This work began for me when I was asked to work with couples who wanted to separate well and to help their children navigate the separation. Over time, I began to be asked to work therapeutically with couples who wanted to stay together and to resolve their difficulties. Although family therapy includes working with couples, I decided to undertake further training, specifically in couples therapy. There are various theoretical approaches to couples therapy and I trained for a year in the Developmental Model of Couples Therapy at The Couples Institute in California with Ellyn Bader and Pete Pearson. My work with couples is wide-ranging – most would like their relationship to be different, some find communication has become difficult, sometimes there has been infidelity, sometimes a couple will come with a specific problem they wish to work on.

Lindsey Sillars

There might be a specific goal you wish to work on, or something more general. At the start, we will work together focusing on the reasons you seek Counselling and plan a way forward.

I take a mind-body approach to Counselling. Using a holistic approach can help you take charge of your symptoms such as an over active mind or overwhelming feelings of anxiety. I believe knowledge is power and offer psychoeducation not as an expert but as a way of helping you understand the mind-body connection, to gain self-awareness and develop new coping strategies.

At the heart of our work is a genuine, trustworthy, and compassionate relationship. I aim to offer an inclusive and neurodiverse affirming environment where you can safely express and be yourself without judgement. This may include creative ways of working including Therapeutic Photography.

Counselling sessions are offered face to face or online / telephone and can be short term or longer in duration. Walk and Talk (Outdoor Therapy) sessions are available between April and October. I currently have availability on a Thursday and Friday.

It can be overwhelming searching for the right Counsellor so I would be happy to explain about the different modalities and approaches should that help. Please feel free to book in a free 15 minute telephone consultation without obligation to assist you in that search.

Laura Ramsay

BACP Registered Registered Counsellor/Psychotherapist

Laura is a BACP registered, person centred Counsellor and Psychotherapist.
She works with young people and adults 16+, offering a supportive, non-judgemental space to explore current experiences and issues. When a person feels truly seen and heard in this safe, therapeutic space, it allows the discovery of areas for deeper exploration, Laura will help guide you through this journey.

Laura offers walk and talk therapy. Clients enjoy the outdoors and being in the elements, which can enrich and support the process of therapy. Being outdoors involves movement, a sense of space and escape. Conversation and connection may flow more freely for some. Laura trained in walk and talk therapy during the pandemic and found it to be transformative for both herself and her clients.

Laura is a qualified IAART Rewind practitioner. Rewind is a treatment for PTSD which requires up to three sessions and involves a non-disclosure treatment method known as ‘closure without disclosure.’ This method is very effective if talking about a traumatic event is likely to cause re-traumatisation, or where previous attempts to discuss it have been unsuccessful.

Laura offers an initial 30 minute appointment which can be in person or online/phone where your needs can be discussed and any questions asked.
